There is an innovative program for Los Angeles residents to take advantage of. It’s called the Sewer Lateral Repair Program. This program provides assistance to homeowners to clean and maintain their sewer lateral that connects to the Districts main line. The sewer pipeline, all the up to and including the connection to the main, is the responsibility of the homeowner. Regular maintenance removes blockages caused by grease, debris, rocks and tree roots. Costa Mesa Sanitary District will reimburse up to $1,100 of the incurred costs for maintaining the lateral. Home owners can apply for this program, not more than, every 5 years. The requirements that need to be met prior to approval by the district are: all property owners must call a plumber for a closed circuit TV, as well as, submit an application along with video for review. The contractor will need to obtain a permit and inspection before beginning work. The payment to the homeowner for completed work will be issued after video of work completion and receipts are submitted. All work must be completed within six months. Sewer Lateral Permit fees will be waived, (up to a maximum of $240.00). Penalty fees will be assessed for work performed without a permit. Applications for this program can be obtained from the Costa Mesa Sanitary District and funding is available on a first come, first serve basis.
